Cross Processing

This was my attempt at using Cross Processing, to create an effect of an older photo, however i think that it hasn't worked very well in this attempt, the colours have made it too green, the original color of the photo has been lost and it doesn't create the effect that i wanted. I added a new adjustment layer to allow me to carry out these changes, in this layer i adjusted the curves, red, blue, green and RGB were all edited to change the color and look of the picture.

I tried again and changed some of the adjustment layer, i reduced the green and i got a much better result, the green isn't as intense and looks more subtle compared to the previous picture.

Shutter Speed Light Experiment

These were photos that we took experimenting with shutter speeds and light. To create this affect we had the shutter speed set to 5 seconds, this allowed the light to be captured from the torch and to almost have it held in time.

The photos were taken in a dark room otherwise there would of been too much exposure from the rest of the light in the room, you can see in the second photo that a bit of light started to creep in and made the picture a lot lighter.

This was a close up that i took, with a focus on the eyes and no focus at all on the background.

this was a line shot that i took, the line is leading to the main target of the image and drawing the eye there, the shadow of the lamp post was used as the line in this image and my model was set off to the side.

this was a tilt up shot, i was looking up on my model to take this image, tilting the camera to get the image, this helps the picture to catch the light.

this was the framed shot that i took, the doorway was used as the frame to bring attention to the person in the middle of the frame.

this photo demonstrates eye level, the person behind has a higher eye level so could be seen as being more powerful than the person below them.

this was a medium shot, this photo was unsuccessful as it wasn't focused or zoom properly, creating a blurred look on the image.

Photoshop Skills

this was the image in which i added auto tone, auto colour and auto contrast, you can see the effect of how it's changed the way the image looks.
this is the image in which i adjusted the brightness and contrast you can see from the last image that it is much darker and less exposed
this was the image that i dodged and burned, the trees in the background were burned to make them a bit darker and around the faces were dodged to lighten them up a little bit.
this image i added an unsharpen mask, changing the way that the image looks again.

Induction Evaluation

Induction Evaluation

The first project that I have completed in Media Communication Studies is the magazine cover below.  I used my photography skills to take the picture that was used for the main image on the front cover. When taking this picture I used manual focus, this was the first time I had used this, to do this I had to adjust the focus ring on the front of the camera lens, this gave me full control over the focus of the image allowing me to give it the effect that I wanted.  Another skill that I used when taking this image was adjusting the zoom, a ring on the camera lens also did this, I used the zoom and focus in conjunction with each other, by readjusting the focus once I had zoomed in., this helped me to give the image that I used for my front cover the effect that I wanted it to have, and made it fit in with the rest of the design of the magazine. The focus and zoom were used alongside the T-stance; this stance allows me to have a lot more control over how still the camera was kept and almost has the same effect as a tripod.

I took the picture in portrait, portrait is a vertical image used for head and shoulder shot, oppose to landscape which is a horizontal image, which would be more suited for taking an image of a field or a large space etc. I also learned a range of lighting techniques, including back, side, and front, for my image I used side lighting, which is a light that shines from the side of the image.

However the background for my image could have been a bit better, I thought it was a bit dark for the colors of the image, they didn’t reflect well with the color scheme that I used for the front cover. I also didn’t think about eye line and the way that I took my photo, I could have looked at that in a bit more detail and found a way to improve the way that the picture looks.

I also used skills in photoshop, at first I found it quite difficult to use, I struggled to get my head around some of the tools I was using, but after a couple of days using it, I started to get used to it and found it a lot easier to use. I added brightness and contrast effects onto my project to try and make it look more professional, I used this alongside my color scheme of red, black and white, very basic colors that created the sort of look that I wanted to have on my front cover.

To improve my front cover I would try and find a more professional looking font, as well as improving my skills to try and make some of the taglines and the headline stand out more than they do at the minute. I also felt that the way my main picture sat in front cover wasn’t quite right and it could have been improved.
