Induction Evaluation
The first project that I have completed in
Media Communication Studies is the magazine cover below. I used my photography skills to take the
picture that was used for the main image on the front cover. When taking this
picture I used manual focus, this was the first time I had used this, to do
this I had to adjust the focus ring on the front of the camera lens, this gave
me full control over the focus of the image allowing me to give it the effect
that I wanted. Another skill that I used
when taking this image was adjusting the zoom, a ring on the camera lens also
did this, I used the zoom and focus in conjunction with each other, by
readjusting the focus once I had zoomed in., this helped me to give the image
that I used for my front cover the effect that I wanted it to have, and made it
fit in with the rest of the design of the magazine. The focus and zoom were
used alongside the T-stance; this stance allows me to have a lot more control
over how still the camera was kept and almost has the same effect as a
tripod.
I took the picture in portrait, portrait is
a vertical image used for head and shoulder shot, oppose to landscape which is
a horizontal image, which would be more suited for taking an image of a field
or a large space etc. I also learned a range of lighting techniques, including
back, side, and front, for my image I used side lighting, which is a light that
shines from the side of the image.
However the background for my image could
have been a bit better, I thought it was a bit dark for the colors of the
image, they didn’t reflect well with the color scheme that I used for the front
cover. I also didn’t think about eye line and the way that I took my photo, I
could have looked at that in a bit more detail and found a way to improve the
way that the picture looks.
I also used skills in photoshop, at first I
found it quite difficult to use, I struggled to get my head around some of the
tools I was using, but after a couple of days using it, I started to get used
to it and found it a lot easier to use. I added brightness and contrast effects
onto my project to try and make it look more professional, I used this
alongside my color scheme of red, black and white, very basic colors that
created the sort of look that I wanted to have on my front cover.
To improve my front cover I would try and
find a more professional looking font, as well as improving my skills to try
and make some of the taglines and the headline stand out more than they do at
the minute. I also felt that the way my main picture sat in front cover wasn’t
quite right and it could have been improved.
